Projects and charities supported by the club

Even though the club is effectively non-profit, we make an effort to support various local charities and/or community projects local to our area. Some of which are detailed below.

The Liesbeek River (Community) project in Cape Town and the
Soil For Life organisation (www.soilforlife.co.za) have benefitted from visits and contributions.

Una van der Spuy's chosen charity (children of Stellenbosch) and Animal Welfare Stellenbsoch have also benefitted. Our Christmas get-together proceeds went to Imbali Childrens’ Education Project in Kylemore.

A trip to the Dylan Lewis Sculpture Gardens also raised R500 for the Night Shelter in Stellenbosch.

The education organisation Stellenploy (www.stellemploy.org) also receives annual contributions from us.

In the Spring of 2007, the Stellenbosch Horticultural Society helped to transform the gardens of the Bergzicht Training Centre. www.bergzichttraining.com

In central Stellenbosch, the Bergzicht centre provides training for adults, mostly women, with a view to providing them with employment at the end of their training.

The club also did a visit to the Abalimi Township Project on the Cape Flats. There was a visit the Abalimi People’s Garden Centre in Nyanga and after that to a community garden in the Nyanga-Phillipi-Gugulethu area. Please see www.abalimi.org.za for more information.
