Vergelegen has been a gardener's paradise from the time the land was first tamed by Willem Adriaan van der Stel in 1700.
It is always a pleasure to return - to be inspired by the ancient trees, magnificent roses and the camellia forest. Not to mention the manicured lawns and the peaceful fern glens.
It was a perfect spring day when the club visited. Eric Theron, head gardener willingly showed us around the gardens, and imparted useful tips to the members. Such as with what and when to spray roses, and even how a beer will help when planting trees!
We all had a lot of fun, and were reminded of childhood memories when guided to the knarled old tree near the Camellia Forest. What a magical place!
